The airport link reaches the centre of Seoul

The second phase of Seoul’s airport rail link (Korail Airport Railroad) was put into commercial operation at the beginning of the year. It has been extended up to the city centre of Seoul by a 21-km section with four stations.

The line, which was commissioned by the operator Korail to meet an increase in air traffic, has linked the airports of Incheon and of Gimpo (phase 1) since 2007.

As the leader of the Incheon Korean French Consortium, Alstom was responsible for the transportation system and for project coordination. The company supplied the signalling system (Urbalis), the sub-stations, the electromechanical facilities, the catenaries, the remote surveillance and data acquisition system, as well as the landing doors.

The line measures 61.7 km in total and has 10 stations. The journey time is now 43 minutes from one end to the other by direct train. The possibility of the line being served by KTX, the Korean TGV, is also being assessed.
