Claude Burckbuchler, who served twice as Alstom China Country President (1996-1998 and 2007-2010), won the "China's Friendship Award 2010" - the nation's most prestigious state award to appreciate and honour selected foreigners who have made remarkable contributions to China's social and economic development.

"This is a significant award granted, which not only recognises the personal contributions of Claude Burckbuchler, but further confirms Alstom as a long-term dedicated partner in China. We keep making efforts to provide cutting-edge technologies and solutions to meet the sustainable development expectations in China, as well as in all over the world," said Patrick Kron, Alstom's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.

An award ceremony was held on 29 September at the Great Hall of the People, during which Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Dejia personally acknowledged and congratulated the winners. The laureates will also be invited to join China's 61st Anniversary celebration in the presence of Chinese Premier Wen Jia Bao.

Established in 1991, the Friendship Award is a state-level award set up to thank and commend outstanding foreign experts annually for their contributions to China's social, economic, scientific, technological, educational and cultural development. Each year, a maximum of 50 foreign experts, from various fields involving agriculture, energy resources, manufacturing and machinery, electronic, petroleum, education, scientific research, medicine, tourism, journalism and publishing, receive the top national distinction. Among the previous year winners are Nobel Prize winner Alan G. MacDiarmid, chief economist of the US Environmental Defense Daniel J. Dudek etc.
