Alstom Transport has been awarded a contract worth 170 million euros to supply the State of Victoria, southeast Australia, with 20 additional XTrapolis suburban trains for the City of Melbournes metropolitan network.

Alstom participated in the National Power New Zealand Conference, a three day show bringing together the nation's most senior players in the industry. The organisation and member partners to the Global Carbon Capture and Storage Institute was today launched in Canberra, Australia by Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.

Alstom has been appointed by The Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) as the exclusive supplier for the new Higashi Izu wind farm in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, representing Alstoms first contract in the Japanese wind power market since acquiring Ecotècnia* in October 2007. This adds to the four wind farms using Alstoms technology already in operation in Japan.

After a 9,000-kilometre and one-month journey, the first trainset that reached Melbourne from the harbor of Vado Ligure in Italy, one month ahead of schedule. The trainset was due in Melbourne around 27 August.

We Energies, Alstom and The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) announced today that a pilot project testing an advanced chilled ammonia process has demonstrated more than 90 percent capture of carbon dioxide (CO2) from the flue stream of at a coal-fired power plant in Wisconsin.

26 October 2009. Chris Raine, Country President of Alstom in Australia and New Zealand gave a key note speech on 'Clean Power' at the Queensland Power & Gas Conference in Brisbane. The speech outlined Alstom's approach to decarbonising power generation through the use of a balanced portfolio of power generation technologies, improving production efficiency, and carbon capture and storage.

Between 1 April 2009 and 30 September 2009, Alstom registered order intake of AUD 11.6 billion, down from the record level of the first six months of the previous year. Over the same period, sales (AUD 15.8 billion) and income from operations (AUD 1.35 billion) continued to grow, up respectively by 8% and 19%. The operating margin reached 8.6% as compared to 7.8% last year. The net result amounted to AUD 916 million (+7%), whilst the free cash flow decreased to AUD 125 million due to the sharp drop in orders received.

Alstom and Schlumberger have announced the signature of an agreement for mutual collaboration in the joint offering of CCS*-ready studies. These innovative studies will conduct a technical analysis of a power plant to identify how it should be adapted to accommodate an Alstom CCS system.

Federal and state government officials today joined executives from American Electric Power (NYSE: AEP) and Alstom at AEPs Mountaineer Plant to formally commission the worlds first project to both capture and store carbon dioxide (CO2) from a coal-fired power plant. The Hon. John Robertson, New South Wales Minister for Energy, today officially opened the Alstom-constructed Colongra power station at Munmorah, 120 km north of Sydney, on behalf of Delta Electricity.
The project was delivered on time and within budget by Alstom, which employs 600 people in Australia. At the peak of the construction phase, the project employed over 350 people, with over 1,000 jobs created in total during the construction period.
