Alstom Transport has been awarded a contract worth 160 million euros to supply the State of Victoria in southeast Australia with XTrapolis suburban trains for the City of Melbournes metropolitan network. The contract is for 18 XTrapolis six-car trainsets, which are scheduled for delivery from late 2009.

Following the high level of orders registered last year, Alstom set a new record between 1 April 2007 and 31 March 2008 with order intake growing by 23%.

Unveiled on 5 February at the Alstom Transport plant in La Rochelle (France), the AGV has just started its first dynamic tests in the speed track at the Velim Rail Test Centre in the Czech Republic.
