Alstom Grids new e-terrasource power system modeler is a database application that manages the power system models that are required for analysis of the reliability and economics of the electrical system as a whole. (Think of the power grid as a single gigantic machine many of todays critical processes require analysis of the machine as a whole, rather than in parts).

e-terrasource allows past, present and future (planned) states of the grid to be represented in a time continuum. These models are used in operations control, electricity markets and system expansion planning as well as other areas of power utilities. e-terrasource is designed to function in an integrated enterprise architecture, supplying models to all functions that require models. It is based on CIM standards from TC57 and is compatible with modern architectural notions such as the NIST Smart Grid Roadmap and CIGRE D2.24.

Power system models are extremely large and complex. e-terrasource provides state of the art tools for navigating, editing and validating models. It supports concurrent multi-user activity. Alstom engineers pioneered CIM standards for partitioning models and exchanging model information among neighbouring utilities these are built into e-terrasource.

In short, utilities using e-terrasource will save labor and improve model quality. e-terrasource belongs to Alstom Grids e-terra product range, a reliable solution for power system operation control centres that must adapt to changing business environment with new industry dynamics, new regulatory rules and new demands on existing infrastructure. Energy markets impact the pattern of power flows in unplanned ways. Operators are seeking ways to continually optimize operations and assets, with a high level of security and improved quality of service. Alstom Grid responds to these needs with its e-terra solutions for EMS and DMS providing SCADA and advanced functions.

Alstom Grid is the global leader in EMS.
