Worlds Largest Electric Arc Furnace Transformer Manufactured By Alstom Grid Turkey

The largest special transformer in the world manufactured to date, the 300 MVA 34.5/1,683-1,119 kV electric arc furnace transformer was produced by Alstom Grid Turkey in Gebze. 

With this production, Alstom Grid has broken its own record achieved with the 240/265 MVA electric arc furnace transformer it produced in 2006. The new transformer is to be used in the iron and steel works facilities founded in Iskenderun in partnership between MMK, a major steel producer in Russia, and Ataka Group and will help melt approximately 250 tons of scrap in each cycle.

Alstom Grid Turkey General Manager Herve Bernabeu who spoke at the ceremony organized in their Gebze plant on August 9 with the attendance of Alstom Grid senior officials and employees, emphasized that they have been producing transformers in Turkey since 1968 and said; Today our factory in Turkey with its annual production capacity of 36 thousand MVA is the largest power transformer factory both in Turkey and within Alstom Grid. We are able to manufacture transformers of up to 1200 MVA and 525 kV. We are the leader in private transformers sector in the Turkish market. Our quality standards, modern production techniques and comprehensive test laboratories are capable of meeting all international standards and the special requirements of our customers. Thanks to these characteristics, we are a primarily preferred company globally in the transformer sector. We export 80 percent of our production to the four corners of the world from America to Germany, South Africa to Venezuela.

Country Sales Director in Turkey Tunç Tezel who also spoke at the event, stated that they felt extremely proud that the worlds largest electric arc furnace transformer has been produced in Turkey and emphasized that with this production, they had reinforced their leadership in the private transformer market.

The electric arc furnace transformer is planned to be shipped within a month, with the field assembly and commissioning to take place by year end.
