Alstom recently inaugurated a new factory in Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA that will allow the company to manufacture the largest turbines in the world, Alstoms ARABELLE 1,700 MW class nuclear steam turbines.

Beyond nuclear power, the new facility
can also manufacture turbines, turbo-generators and related equipment
for coal, natural gas, and hydropower units.

Alstom Power President Philippe Joubert
said: Our new Chattanooga factory dramatically enhances Alstoms
ability to build and retrofit power generation equipment for customers
in North America and beyond.  Coupled with Alstoms recent investments
in carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) and wind turbine production in
the US, this unit represents another important step in executing our
clean power strategy

Chattanooga is ideally located for the manufacture of large power generation equipment because of its central location in the USA and its excellent access to road, rail and waterways.  In addition, the facility has an on-site barge dock with a lifting capacity of up to 1,000 tons.

The Chattanooga facility features proprietary rotor welding technology, some of the most capable machine tools in our industry and the largest spin balancing pit in the world.  Such unique technology positions Alstom both for retrofitting existing equipment to make it more efficient or building the equipment that will be needed for the next generation of power plants.

During the last week of June, Alstom hosted a series of customers events designed to showcase the new factory for customers, local elected officials, other industry colleagues, and the international and US media.  During those events, we interviewed various Alstom executives to get their views on the importance of the new Chattanooga facility.
