This year, the prestigious annual BOC Apprentice Welding Competition held their Regional Finals at Alstom's very own Welding Facility in Stafford.  Alstom, alongside other companies, including Doosan Babcock, put forward their most talented welding stars for the competition.

The SkillWeld committee, who organise this prestigious event, chose the Alstom Welding Facility as one of the locations to host this years Regional Finals, which took place on 25th May.  The world-class Stafford Welding Facility only opened in July of last year but has already approved over 370 welders to industry standards and has proved popular with meeting customer-training needs, so its no surprise that it was chosen as the venue for the event.

During the competition, apprentices were required to complete a number of set test pieces that were carefully scrutinised by the judging panel.  Alstom selected its brightest three, first-year UK apprentices to compete, who scored 4th, 5th and 9th positions which is remarkable considering they have only been welding for 40 weeks.   The three apprentices are now eligible to compete in the respected 2011 Skillweld competition.
