More than two years after unveiling its vision and plans to expand
turbine manufacturing in North America and selected Chattanooga as the
site, Alstom Power inaugurated its newest and largest manufacturing
facility in Chattanooga, June 24.

The new facility, resulting from an
investment of close to $300 million, will play a critical role in
Alstoms continued development of clean power in North America.

This marks a pivot point as our country tackles important energy issues, declared Tennessees Governor Phil Bredesen.

Stephane Cai, Managing Director at the
Chattanooga facility was the master of ceremonies, welcoming Alstom
customers as well as regional and community leaders, including Governor
Bredesen; Matt Kisber, Commissioner of the Tennessee Department of
Economic and Community Development; Chattanooga Mayor Ron Littlefield
and Hamilton County Mayor, Claude Ramsey, as well as state and local
legislators and elected officials.

These leaders recognized and thanked Alstom as a large employer and active member of the community.

Commissioner Kisber observed that
Alstoms investment in skills development and its workforce will benefit
not only Alstom, but the state of Tennessee.

"Alstom truly led the way for the
expansion of industry in the region, said Kisber. Because of your
leadership, other companies have followed, but Alstom was the company
that started it all.

Governor Bredesen addressed the Alstom
employees of Chattanooga, Because of you, a global company had the
confidence to be here.

He challenged the Chattanooga workforce
to make the operation a success. The Governor also commented on the
timing of the opening at a point in time when the public is focused on
the implications of energy development and the environment. Alstom is
positioned to play a huge role in helping the country face these
issues, he concluded.

Mayor Littlefield remarked that the
facility sits on a historic site, which for decades has made significant
contributions in manufacturing for the power industry. Here we are at
the most transformed complex in the city, he said. This site is part
of our industrial history and now thanks to Alstom, it is part of our
industrial future.

Mayor Ramsey thanked Guy Chardon and
promised, Well make a difference together. Weve seen the investment;
its here and its an investment in the future. With Alstom customers
present, he continued, Today is a good day to do business. If you do,
well build and deliver to you.

Cai then introduced speakers from
Alstoms senior management, represented by Patrick Kron, Alstoms CEO;
Guy Chardon, Senior Vice President for Thermal Products and Philippe
Joubert, President of Alstom Power. Kron explained how the investment in
Chattanooga advances Alstoms overall strategy. This new facility
brings us closer to our customers, but is also important for its role
building on our vision for Clean Power Today.

In his remarks, Guy Chardon explained why
Chattanooga proved to be the ideal location for this facility. We will
be moving the largest steam turbines in the world and the Tennessee
River gives us access to 80% of the existing and planned nuclear power
plants today.

He provided several facts about the
construction and the facility itself, remarking that at 350,000 square
feet, this is the largest facility of its kind, with the worlds largest
balancing pit and state-of-the-art machine tools that are also scaled
to build the very large turbines suited for highly efficient nuclear
power production.

We have aimed for the highest
environmental standards, a Gold LEED certification, he continued. We
recycled 3,400 tons of steel and 500,000 square feet of concrete and
achieved 35% energy savings, while returning 50% of our property to
green space. In turn, this low-carbon facility will produce equipment
that will bring new and existing power facilities to a higher level of
efficiency, able to also meet higher environmental standards.

Philippe Joubert called the completion of the facility a team effort that fits Alstoms strategy to advance clean power, to locate manufacturing in the heart of the industry and to expand the local supply chain all to help customers meet their energy production and management goals.

Today is the start of a new day, he said, We are at a point of change in the history of our industry. Alstom is proud to shape the future of power technology as we create jobs in the community.

Finally, Stephane Cai declared the facility open, The baby the big baby is here. This is a defining moment for Alstom in the U.S.
