On Monday 31st May in Aghada, Ireland, Irish utility ESB held an inauguration ceremony to officially open a new power plant built by Alstom.

This KA26 combined-cycle power plant, designed and built by Alstom with one GT26 gas turbine at its heart, is part of ESBs programme to replace ageing and less efficient power stations with modern, high efficiency plants.  The successful project is now firmly in the hands of the client, but Alstom teams remain on site to look after the plant under a maintenance contract.

For Alstom, the event was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the plant, built against a background of challenging schedules.  The Irish Minister for Energy, Eamon Ryan, was among the 140 guests, who heard ESB praise the project.

Aghada is based on the south coast of Ireland and is one of a new generation of plants on the Irish grid.  It will be the most efficient combined cycle power plant in the country.
