- Reinforces the leadership position of Alstom Hydro* in India

Alstom in India today announced that it has
won a contract worth Rs 124 crores (approximately 18
million) with Dans Energy Private Limited for a new hydropower
plant in Indias Sikkim region. The 96 MW Jorethang Loop
Hydro Electric Project will be based at the city of Jorethang on
the bank of the river Rangeet, a tributary of the river Teesta,
the states largest river. The plants electricity
output will be connected to the countrys power grid.



The order entails end-to-end manufacturing of equipment at Alstom
Hydros Vadodara facility in Gujurat State, one of the
companys largest hydro equipment manufacturing hubs
worldwide. The contract includes the supply, installation,
testing & commissioning of electro-mechanical equipment** for
the plants two 48 MW units.

At 147 GW, India has the fifth largest installed energy
generating capacity in the world, of which hydropower makes up
approximately one quarter. Another two thirds are made up by oil,
coal and gas. Coal is the dominating fuel source, but the country
is diversifying its energy mix to include low-carbon fuels such
as hydro, wind power and nuclear.
