The symbolic sod-cutting ceremony was held on 22 March for the refurbishment and extension of the thermal substation in Cádiz, which was chaired by Cádiz Mayor Teófila Martínez.

This new project boasts a budget of 10,306,139 and the participation of eight important companies that have been awarded the refurbishment and extension contract, amongst which is Areva T&D¹, which supplies the high voltage switches. As José Blas Fernández, the President of Eléctrica de Cádiz, explained, the refurbishment and modification of these facilities, owned by Eléctrica de Cádiz, implies the greatest works and the greatest investment of the company in its 15 years of life. 1 On 8 June 2010, Alstom introduced its new sector, Alstom Grid, after its acquisition of the transmission and power electronics activities of Areva T&D.
