The 27 trains, ordered from the Alstom-Bombardier consortium
in December 2006, will gradually be brought into service from
summer 2011. They will replace the current DT3 fleet and will
also provide increased capacity and passenger comfort
(air-conditioning, passenger information and CCTV systems,
walk-through interiors). Moreover, their lightweight
stainless-steel car body and regenerative braking system are
designed to be as energy-efficient as possible.

Alstom had previously provided the Hamburg U-Bahn with the DT2,
DT3 and DT4 fleets - a total of 462 trainsets.
