The contract, which was signed with Ergose in 2007, involves
the installation of approximately 300 km of overhead catenary
lines and the construction of two traction sub-stations.

Around a hundred Greek, French and Italian workers are involved
in the project. Regional trains run on the line during the day,
and so the teams only have a time slot of 4 to 5 hours per
night within which to work. The work being done will mean an
increase in speed for the trains (from 110 km/h to 160 km/h),
more frequent trains during peak times and a gradual move away
from diesel. The line is scheduled to come into operation in
summer 2010.
