Alstom marked its growing presence in the UK onshore wind market by promoting its range of turbines at the recent RenewableUK exhibition and conference in Glasgow, Scotland (2-4  November). The event represented all technologies including onshore and offshore wind, small wind systems, wave and tidal energy, and attracted over 6000 visitors, including leading political and industry figures such as the Shadow Energy Minister.

Alstom Power concentrated on highlighting its onshore wind power technologies, with specific reference to the ALSTOM PURE TORQUE concept. Alstom also debuted its research and development plans in wind offshore technology, developing a 6MW direct drive wind turbine optimised for UK conditions. Prototypes and preseries are planned to be available in 2012-2013, with series production to start in 2014.

The joint Alstom Power and Grid exhibition drew in the crowds, with many written enquiries taken on the Power stand in addition to promising conversations between the sales team and current and potential customers.   Business meetings were conducted with contacts from many major players in the market and Stephen Burgin, Alstom UK Country President and Head of Power, met with top journalists from several renewable industry publications.

The event provided an ideal opportunity to demonstrate Alstoms commitment to the UK renewable energy market and promote Alstoms key milestones, such as the recent order worth over 200 million to build a 217 MW extension to the Whitelee wind farm in Scotland. In addition to the successful completion of the 15 MW wind farm at Clachan Flats, Scotland and the ongoing construction of 26 MW wind farm for Pennant Walters in Maesgwyn, Wales.
