Pedro Solé has been appointed the new president of Alstom Spain. Until then he held the position of Alstom Group Senior Vice-President for the Asia-Pacific region, based at the Group's headquarter in Paris.

Pedro Solé Raventós is an Industrial Engineering graduate of the UPC (Barcelona School of Industrial Engineers), with a doctorate in Industrial Engineering from the Technical University of Madrid and a graduate of Instituto de Empresa, London Business School and INSTAD in Paris. He began his professional career as production manager at La Maquinista Terrestre y Marítima in Barcelona before moving on to the INIs (National Industry Institute) Capital Equipment Division, where he was actively involved in the privatisation of its companies.

When Alstom established its industrial division in Spain in 1990, Pedro Solé was appointed Business Manager of Alstom Transport. In 1996 he transferred to Alstom Transport's headquarters in Paris as its International Vice-President for Passenger Group Sales and Marketing. Since 2000, he has been part of the companys top global management, initially as Senior Vice-President for the Americas region and, since 2004, for the Asia-Pacific region. Amongst some of the achievements during his period as manager in these areas, it is worth highlighting the significant growth the group experienced in the US and Latin America; the Alstom Groups industrial expansion in China and India, with singular projects such as participation in the Taishang 1 and 2 nuclear plants; equipment for the Three Gorges plant; and the metros in Shanghai and Nainjing in China; in addition to significant hydraulic projects and the recent contract for the Chenai metro, India.

The group's main objectives in Spain include maximising synergies amongst its businesses in order to offer our clients maximum added value in the sectors of electricity generation and the electrification and signalling for rail infrastructure, as well as to continue being a reference within the company in terms of technical development and innovation and prioritising exportation from Spain.

In Spain, Alstom is represented with its three sectors of activity (Transport, Power and Grid) where the company has 30 production centres and close to 4,000 employees. The company has made a decisive contribution to increasing and renewing the installed capacity of the Spanish electricity network with more than 5,000 MW, mainly in combined cycles, but also with a significant contribution in wind farms and the renewal of hydraulic and thermal plants. Within the rail sector, Alstom has diversified its presence in infrastructure and signalling at the same time as entering new rolling-stock segments with its own technologies (high-speed shuttles, suburban trains, metros and tramways). Alstom Grid ranks among the top 3 in electrical transmission sector and is pioneer in the development of Smart Grids. Alstom Grid offers products, services and integrated energy management solutions across the full energy value chain from power generation, through transmission and distribution grids and to the end user.
