The new Citadis tramways ordered for Rouen are 42 metres
long by 2.40 metres wide, and will be able to carry over 60%
more traffic than the current tramsets. Each can hold nearly
300 passengers, which is the equivalent of more than four
buses. A total of 38,300 extra passengers will be able to be
transported every day.

Alstoms Citadis trams were designed to offer optimal
quality of life on board as well as maximum passenger comfort,
and feature air conditioning, a video-surveillance system and
on-board audio and visual information. The new tramsets also
have an integral low floor, level with the platform, which is a
real advance in terms of accessibility. They each have two
specific access points for people with reduced mobility.

It helps protect the environment as well. Not only is it 98%
recyclable, but with its composite materials and improved
traction system it also consumes 10% less energy than a
traditional tram. A Citadis consumes four times less energy
than a bus and 10 times less than a car in Kwh per seated
passenger. The new tramsets will emit 27 tonnes less CO2 than
those currently in use in order to meet one of the objectives
of the conurbation, which is to cut its CO2 emissions by 75% by
2050. Citadis has also a positive impact on the cities as it
makes 4 times less noise than automotive traffic (5dBA).

The Citadis will be designed and manufactured at the La
Rochelle plant. Other Alstom Transport sites will also be
involved in the manufacturing process: Ornans will produce the
engines, Le Creusot the bogies and Villeurbanne will produce
the onboard electronics and undertake the assembly.

The Rouen conurbation will be receiving trams that have proven
their value on the market because Alstoms Citadis
tramway is now a global benchmark for performance. To date, a
total of 1,382 Citadis trams have been ordered by 34 cities
around the world, while a further 60 cities have tramway
projects in the pipeline.
