These new six-coaches trainsets will be in addition to the
fleet of 29 X’Trapolis trainsets operating in commercial
service in the Melbourne’s suburban network since 2002.
Their delivery comes within the frame of two contracts signed
in January 2008 and February 2009 between Alstom and the State
of Victoria.
With a capacity up to 30,000 passengers an hour in each
direction, these X’Trapolis trainsets are designed with
an operating speed of up to 130 km/h. The new trains will be
equipped with the latest generation of passenger information
and video-surveillance systems.
