The Citadis tramsets will be designed at
Alstoms Valenciennes site. Five other sites will also be
involved in the manufacture of the trams. Tarbes will provide the
electrical and electronic equipment for the traction systems,
Ornans the engines, Le Creusot the bogies, Villeurbanne the
onboard electronics while La Rochelle will handle the
assembly.

Alstoms Citadis trams were designed to
offer optimal quality of life on board as well as maximum
passenger comfort for a pleasant, relaxing journey. Features
include an integral low floor, air-conditioning and a
video-surveillance system as well as on-board visual and audio
information. Each tramset will be 32 metres in length and
accommodate over 200 passengers, or the capacity of three buses .
The Citadis also improves the quality of life in a city
it is four times quieter than motor traffic, generating about
five decibels less noise.

It also helps to protect the environment. Not
only is it 98% recyclable, but with its composite materials and
improved traction system it also consumes 10% less energy than a
traditional tram. A Citadis uses four times less energy than a
bus and ten times less than a car in Kwh per seated
passenger.

The Brest and Dijon conurbations will be
receiving trams that have proven their value on the market,
feature improvements over previous models and have become a
global benchmark for performance. To date, 1,239 Citadis trams
have been ordered by 30 cities worldwide, and over 60 other
cities plan to launch tramway projects over the coming years.
