The remaining trams will be delivered between the end of
2009 and mid-2010. Alstom Transport will also supply a driving
simulator to help train future tram drivers.

This tramway is the first to be equipped with the new Ixege
bogies developed by Alstom. This technology combines a swivel
function and a low floor, enabling this new generation tram to
be used on any type of track, whether the network is new or has
already been in use for a number of years, while improving the
safety and comfort of passengers.

Operating in linked double units, the trams will be able to
transport up to 500 passengers per tramset at a speed of 70 km
per hour. The Citadis fleet will operate alongside the low
floor tramsets currently in service on the Zeytinburnu-Kabatas
line and will replace the high floor tramsets in use on the
Zeytinburnu-Bagcilar line. Very well used by the local
population and tourists, this line serves the historic Golden
Horn district and currently transports 250,000 passengers a
day.

In Istanbul, Alstom has already built the city’s first
metro line and supplied the Metropolis carriages in commercial
service since 2000. Alstom is currently building 20 Metropolis
trainsets for the metro line under construction between Otegar
Kirazli and Olimpyat Village. In association with its partners,
Alstom is also building a railway line linking Europe with Asia
under the Bosphorus as part of the Marmaray project.
