The first two Pendolino trainsets – named the
Cisalpino II - were brought into pre-commercial service on the
Geneva-Milan section on 20 July.

Once the pre-commercial phase ends in late August, the 14
Cisalpino II covered by the contract signed in 2004 will be
progressively added to the existing fleet, which has been in
service between Switzerland, Italy and Germany since 1996.
These new trains will reduce travel time between Geneva and
Milan by about 38 minutes compared to the conventional trains
currently used by Cisalpino.

* Cisalpino is jointly owned by Italian rail operator
Trenitalia and the Swiss Federal Railways (CFF), and provides
cross-border passenger transport between Switzerland and
Italy.
