Dutch Minister of Transport at the controls of
Alstoms hybrid locomotive

The new hybrid locomotive, which operates without
catenaries, began testing in the port of Rotterdam area on 6
April. Initial test results show a diesel consumption reduction
of up to 55% and a carbon emissions reduction of up to 80%
compared to a traditional diesel engine. Noise is reduced by 15
decibels, maintenance cost by 15% and lifecycle cost by at
least 30%.

The minister congratulated Alstom Transport on its initiative
and stated that this hybrid locomotive fully supported
Rotterdams ecological commitments.
