These projects are part of the development plan for the
Athens metro : line 2 and 3 will be extended, with the
construction of 16 new stations, to link to the citys
eastern and western outskirts.

In the framework of this contract, Alstom will equip the
control centre with its ICONIS automatic train supervision
system with which the operator will be able to monitor its
trains and manage traffic with great flexibility and
effectiveness. Alstom will also outfit the new stations with
its AGATE e-Media passenger information and safety system that
the operator will be able to use to communicate with passengers
at the station in real time.

Alstom is responsible for the design, the engineering and the
manufacturing of all these equipment as well as supervising its
installation and testing. These systems are designed and
manufactured entirely by Alstom Transports sites in
Athens (Greece), Charleroi (Belgium), Montreal (Canada) and
Saint-Ouen (France).

This equipment will allow a large increase in passenger traffic
and cover needs linked to the extension of line 2 and 3 of the
Athens metro. They will be put into service in a series of
phases running from 2009 to 2014.

Alstom has already successfully participated in other projects
covering signalling (ATS and PIS on lines 2 and 3) and
infrastructure (electrification of three stations on line 3)
for Attiko Metro and has also supplied it with metro cars. This
new contract demonstrates the operators continued trust
in Alstoms ability to support the development of its
urban network.

Present in the country since 1991, Alstom is a major player in
Greeces rail transport sector. In particular, the
company has delivered the Athens metro (inaugurated in 2000)
and the airport connection linking the city centre to the new
airport in Spata (in commercial operation since 2004).
