The contracts concern the second phase of construction of
Line 3 of Cairos metro system, linking the Abbasiya
district with Al-Ahram, a distance of six kilometres. The line
will ultimately extend 33 km, from the Cairo airport to Imbaba.

Leader of the consortium, Alstom will provide the Urbalis 200
Train Control system, points machines and station signalling
equipment. Alstoms share of this contract is worth
around 25 million. Moreover, as part of another
consortium Alstom will design and supply electromechanical
systems for the four stations on this section of the line. The
value of this contract awarded to the SEP Colas/Alstom is worth
around 65 million.

These two new contracts follow Phase 1 of the project, for
which the two consortiums were selected in January 2007. The
NAT customer renews its confidence in Alstom and has opted for
technological continuity in its signalling and
telecommunications systems and equipment. As a result, the
delivery timetable will be shortened from eight to six years.
Alstom has already supplied the signalling equipment and
infrastructure for Lines 1 and 2 of the Cairo metro system, as
well as the rolling stock for Line 1. This new order
consolidates Alstoms position in Egypt at a time when
the country has embarked on a rail expansion initiative.

In fulfilling this contract, Alstom Transport will draw on its
expertise in urban transport and metro systems in particular.
To date, more than 3,000 Métropolis cars have been sold
worldwide, over half in Asia. Alstom has put into service the
Singapore metros North-East and Circle lines, the
largest automated metro system in the world. In 2008, Alstom
delivered the automatic metro in Lausanne, Switzerland. The
same year, the company delivered and commissioned the new
Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) system on Line 2 of
the Beijing metro in less than 24 months.
