Alstom Transport already delivered to the RATP in early May
2009 the first of the 49 MP05 automatic rubber-tyred metro
trainsets which will replace the MP89 trainsets with
operators’ cabins in use on this line.

The automation will be carried out progressively without any
interruption of service, this will represent a worldwide first.
At the end of 2010, when all the stations of the line will have
been equipped with platform façades, the line will then be
operated using a mix of vehicles: both the current MP 89 trains
with drivers and the MP 05 automatic trains. The line will be
entirely automated by 2012.

These new trainsets will offer better braking, less noise
disturbance and better adhesion on inclines.

Paris metro Line 1:Put into service in July 1900, it is the oldest line in the
Paris metro network. It covers 16.6 km, has 25 stations,
crosses six municipalities and three departments. Line 1 was
selected for automation because it experiences difficulties in
adapting to demand due to a high level of traffic. With 213
million trips per year or 725,000 passengers per day, line 1
has the highest volume of traffic in the Paris metro network.
