These trams feature the latest equipment for the Citadis
range which greatly enhances passenger comfort: an integral low
floor to provide easy access for persons of reduced mobility,
air conditioning, video surveillance, visual information
displays and spoken announcements. They come with a new, more
contemporary livery consisting of a mesh of silver dots.

With 73 tramsets now in service, the Greater Lyon area has
one of the largest Citadis tram fleets in the world. Alstom has
been involved in the city’s urban transport development
policy for over 10 years. In fact in 1998, Sytral was one of
the first clients to choose Alstom’s technology and
expertise to provide the infrastructure, signalling and a fleet
of 47 tramsets for Lyon’s first two tram lines, T1 and
T2. In 2005, it once again called on Alstom to produce the
track and signalling and an additional 13 tramsets for the T3
line, known as the “LEA”.

The first phase of the T4 line of the Lyon tramway links the
Jet d’eau-Mendès France stop in the 8th
arrondissement to the hospital hub of the Portes du Sud at
Feyzin Vénissieux. It serves the Etats-Unis quarter, the
multi-mode interchange at Vénissieux station which has a
park-and-ride for 740 cars, and creates a new interchange at
Jet d’eau. It is 10 kilometres long and has 18 stops.

About the Citadis tram

To date nearly 1,200 Citadis tramsets have been ordered by 29
cities around the world and more than 60 other cities have a
tramway project scheduled for the next few years. The tram has
been an undeniable success as it offers sustainable mobility,
makes it possible to rethink and modernize urban space,
preserves architectural heritage and contributes to city
growth.

Citadis is manufactured entirely in France at Alstom
Transport’s various sites: the traction motors in Tarbes,
the engines in Ornans, the on-board electronic systems in
Villeurbanne, the bogies in Le Creusot and the design and
integration in Valenciennes, a centre of excellence for urban
rolling stock.

The Citadis is eco-designed and addresses environmental
concerns throughout its lifecycle. The materials used are over
90% recyclable. Alstom is focusing its research on reducing
energy consumption and noise emission. Indeed, Citadis is
equipped with the latest technology, based on research
conducted by Alstom, for reducing energy consumption and noise
emission.
