The new green solution reduces diesel consumption and CO2
emissions by over 40% compared with traditional diesel-powered
locomotives. Noise will be reduced by 15 decibels and
maintenance costs by 15%, resulting in a reduction in total
cost of ownership (TCO) of at least 30%.
A hybrid locomotive equipped with batteries for the shunting
operations usually conducted with diesel-powered locomotives,
combined with an electric traction system, will also enable
cranes to manoeuvre containers on trains without being hampered
by catenaries.
