Under the terms and conditions of the contract, Alstom Power will supply* the complete power island, comprising the steam turbine generator set, the water-steam cycle, the boiler and the ALSPA distributed control system to the new unit 6. This unit, which will be added to the existing otanj power plant ones, will be the countrys first power plant with supercritical steam parameters, allowing it to achieve the highest possible efficiency using local fuel.
The new plant, operational by the end of 2014, will double the customers generation portfolio and generate approximately one third of Slovenias power production, thus allowing the country to reduce its dependency on energy imports.
The project will have an important local impact, enabling production of the nearby coal mine to remain at full capacity instead of being reduced by half, and will secure employment in the region, especially at the power station, the coal mine and in ancillary industries.
We are honoured to be the partner of choice for Termoelectrarna otanj thanks to our innovative technology and Plant IntegratorTM capabilities, said Philippe Joubert, President of Alstom Power .Not only will this new power plant be environmentally friendly and highly efficient, but it will also sustain employment in the region, he added.
Alstom Power has previously installed two 114 MW gas turbines in Slovenia (228 MW in total) as well as several steam turbines both for electricity production and district heating, and is executing service contracts in the country. Alstom Power has already carried out work on the otanj power plant, modernising the boiler for Unit 5 to reduce emissions in order to meet environmental requirements.
*The equipment installed will be a STF60 steam turbine, a TOPGAS generator and a once-through tower type boiler with ultra supercritical steam parameters
