Alstom will design, deliver and supervise the
installation of two GT13E2 gas turbines, generators and
auxiliaries for the new gas-fired unit, which is located in the
region of Al Hashemya and will be operated by Samra Electric
Power Generating Company. Samra III will generate 285 MW, will
meet all international environmental standards, and will have a
9% higher efficiency rate than the other existing simple cycle
units. Upon completion of Samra III, the total capacity of the
entire power plant will be approximately 900 MW, the largest
electricity generation source in Jordan.

Facing a 10% annual growth of its energy
consumption, the Kingdom of Jordan has to expand its present
2,300MW power generation fleet.

The contract marks the first ever
installation of Alstoms GT13E2 turbines in the Kingdom of
Jordan, chosen for their high power output and efficiency, as
well as for Alstoms capacity for honouring demanding
delivery deadlines, said Philippe Joubert, President of
Alstom Power.

The GT13E2 turbine is well known in the Middle
East and North Africa for its ability to operate in harsh
climatic conditions and is widely used in Algeria, Bahrain, Iran,
Kuwait, Libya, Oman, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates. This latest
contract expands Alstoms fleet of GT13 in the Middle East
and Africa to 62.
