Following a contract that was signed on 30 May 2006,
Transport manufactured and supplied 22 five-car trainsets for
Budapest’s existing M2 line and 15 four-car trains for
the newly constructed M4 line. The total order is valued at
€250 million. This is the largest sum ever spent by
Budapest on vehicle modernization, thereby making Alstom
Transport the largest supplier of rolling stock for BKV.

The new modern metros will arrive separately with the M2 trains
arriving first, followed by the vehicles for the M4 line. After
necessary testing at the Valenciennes centre in France, the
trains will enter into traffic in February 2009. Afterwards,
new trainsets are scheduled to start their operation every
month, with the last part of the METROPOLIS fleet arriving in
September 2009.

METROPOLIS
Alstom has more than 3,000 METROPOLIS
cars in operation in 45 cities worldwide, carrying more than
one million passengers every day. The main advantages of this
METROPOLIS rolling stock comes from its modular construction
(two to nine car configuration), its ability to run in
automatic mode, its reliability and its compatibility with
Hungarian operating conditions.
