These two contracts concern a total of 1,822 TBL1+ hardware
devices and include a 10-year maintenance agreement, bringing
the total amount of the two contracts to 27.4 million euros.

The TBL1+ system, which triggers automatic braking at speeds
greater than 40 kph when a train approaches signals requiring a
stop, as well as automatic braking when such signals are
crossed, also supports the transmission standard of the
European Railway Traffic Management System (ERTMS).

This new technology represents a significant step forward in
safety compared with the MEMOR system used currently. Export
applications are made possible by the new systems ERTMS
compatibility.

The TBL1+ hardware was developed by the Alstom Centre of
Excellence for railway signalling at Charleroi (Belgium). The
SNCB will take charge of installing the TBL1+ hardware on board
its rolling stock.

Alstom is also supplying the level 1 and 2 ERTMS system to
equip 120 T13 and T18 locomotives and 81 I11 and M6 driving
cars. The SNCB has thus ordered all the ERTMS/TBL1+ hardware
for its rolling stock from Alstom.
