Swiss operator BLS has ordered eight additional new regional
trains from the Alstom-Bombardier consortium.

This order corresponds to an option in a contract Alstom entered
into with BLS in 2006 regarding 13 trains. It brings the total
number of regional trains ordered from the Alstom-Bombardier
consortium to 21. The contract represents over 43 million
in total, including nearly 13 million for Alstom
1.

Alstom's role in the consortium is to supply all traction
equipment as well as the passenger information system. All of
this equipment will be supplied by Alstom's Ridderkerk site in
the Netherlands. The manufacture and assembly of the cars will
take place at Bombardier's site in Villeneuve (Switzerland).

The trains will each measure 62.7 m in length, with a low floor
for easier passenger access as well as 171 seats. The passenger
spaces will be air-conditioned and afford excellent visibility
thanks to the large panoramic windows. Maximum speed is 160 km/h.

Named "Lötschberger" by BLS, these trains will round out the
regional transport fleet in the Lötschberg region. Delivery
will take place in phases between September 2009 and February
2010.
