Alstom to supply electromechanical equipment for the Mexico
City metro system's new line 12

The metro network of Mexico City is one of the largest in
the world, with 4.5 million daily trips. It has 11 lines
covering over 200 km of rail. Line 12 will be 24 km in length,
serve 22 stations and link the districts of Tlahuac and
Mixcoac, in the southern area of the city.
Alstom will supply the electrification, substations, Operations
Control Centre (OCC) and signalling, telecommunications and
ticketing systems. It will also be responsible for system
performance and testing with rolling stock. The rolling stock
will be the subject of a separate tender. The launch of the
civil engineering works is slated for mid-July 2008 and the
project is expected to be finished by late 2011.
Alstom has been present in Mexico City since 1967, the year
that Alstom and ICA built the first lines of the city's metro
network. In fulfilling this contract, Alstom Transport will
rely on its expertise in urban transport, in particular
regarding metro systems. Up to now, over 2,500 Metropolis cars
have been sold worldwide. Alstom constructed the Singapore
metro, the largest automatic metro system in the world. And in
China, Alstom is responsible for the signalling on the Beijing
metro system's Line 2, which will serve the 2008 Olympic Games
facilities.
