Alstom has signed a long term maintenance contract with Fujairah Asia
Power Company (FAPCO) for their 2000 MW power and 130 MIGPD* seawater
desalination plant, currently under construction in the Emirate of
Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.).

The scope of the 16-year contract covers the provision of spare parts and maintenance services for the five Alstom GT26 gas turbines. Commercial operation of the plant is scheduled to start in April 2010.

The Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract for this project was awarded to Alstom in August 2007. Under the contract, Alstom is providing all EPC services for the turnkey supply of the 2000 MW combined-cycle power plant, including the in-house supply of all main equipment, which comprises five GT26 gas turbines, five heat recovery steam generators, three steam turbines (two STF30C and one STF15C), eight turbogenerators (six TOPAIR and two TOPGAS) and associated control systems.

This contract further consolidates Alstoms growing presence in the Middle East. It follows another recent service contract signed in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Commenting on the dual success in the Middle East, Michael Rechsteiner, Senior Vice President, Power Service, said, The Middle East is a fast expanding power market and we are pleased to be strengthening our service portfolio in the region. These two new contracts reinforce the trust that customers place in our extensive technical experience and operation and maintenance expertise. We anticipate continued growth with new power projects being launched in the region.

Steven Yarrington, FAPCOs Executive Managing Director said, FAPCO is confident that the contract with Alstom will bring value and benefit to the Fujairah II Project.  We look forward to working with Alstom in the future, and drawing on their experience, in a joint effort to ensure that optimal reliability and availability can be achieved for this facility.

FAPCO is a joint venture set up by Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority, International Power Plc and Marubeni Corporation. This project is the largest newly constructed independent water and power projects in the U.A.E. and will support the fast-growing need for potable water and electricity in the Northern Emirates.
