After modification, they will be approved to operate in
Switzerland, providing a trans-border service between Morteau
(France) and La Chaux-de-Fonds (Switzerland). The contract
includes an optional section to bring an additional four
vehicles in line with Swiss standards.

The modification to the A TER - X73500 vehicles involves
integrating a beacon reader supplied by the Chemins de Fer
Fédéraux Suisses (CFF, Swiss Federal Railways), the
associated processing unit, as well as a 24V/36V power supply
converter and desk equipment. The modified prototype will be
delivered in December 2008 for approval tests by the SNCF and
the CFF. The fourth vehicle in the firm section will leave
Alstoms Reichshoffen workshops in March 2009. This
contract represents 3.500 hours of studies and 1000 hours of
production for the site.

The vehicles are part of the Franche-Comté fleet of 20 A
TERs delivered between July 2001 and December 2003 by Alstom
Transport Reichshoffen. 331 A TER - X73500 vehicles, combining
modernity, modularity, safety and comfort, are currently
operating on French regional lines.
