Alstom signs 12 million order in Sweden to supply
Coradia Nordic regional trains

The order is worth a total of around 12 million euros and
will see two trains delivered, with an option for a further two
trains. Delivery is scheduled for the second half of
2010. 

Coradia Nordic train is a four-car articulated EMU (Electric
Multiple Unit). The trains will be designed and assembled at
Alstom’s site in Salzgitter, Germany, while the ONIX
traction system will be manufactured in Tarbes, France. By
purchasing the new trains, JLT will improve and update its
regional train fleet. The new trains will mean increased
comfort for passengers, with improved accessibility thanks to
lower floors with a no-step design. What’s more, Coradia
Nordic trains are up to 95% recyclable, in line with
Alstom’s environmental policy.

Since the first contract in 2002, Alstom has sold 206
Coradia Continental trains in Europe, out of which 127
winterized trains (Coradia Nordic), including this latest
order. This confirms the success of these trains, the Nordic
version of which is specially designed for extreme winter
weather conditions.

The order is the fourth for Coradia Nordic in Sweden. The
first batch of trains for Greater Stockholm has been in service
since August 2005. In total, Alstom has supplied 71 trains to
SL, Stockholm’s public transport operator. The second
order is for 49 regional trains for the operator
Skånetrafiken, signed in December 2006, with an initial
delivery in summer 2010 and a service planned to start by the
end of the year. This year, the region of
Östergötland ordered five Coradia Nordic trains; the
contract was signed on March 18th.
