The plant is operated by Scottish Power (SCPL) Limited, an Independent Power Producer, owned by Iberdrola of Spain.

This contract follows an existing operation and maintenance contract that Alstom has with the customer. Under the terms of the new contract, Alstom will provide planned and unplanned maintenance on the gas turbine island. It also includes Alstom personnel on site permanently for operational support. The plant was designed and built by Alstom and has been in commercial operation under the supervision of the on-site Alstom operation and maintenance team since 2001.

During a scheduled inspection of the gas turbine in 2003, the unit received a compressor upgrade that increased the overall combined cycle output of the plant significantly, providing the customer with additional output at the same operating cost.

Although primarily designed for base load operation, the plant has successfully demonstrated its ability to operate for sustained periods in flexible cycling mode. This has provided measurable benefits to the customer in the competitive UK electricity market.

The Shoreham plant is located in a prominent, densely populated coastal area and environmental issues have always been in focus here with particularly stringent noise and emissions limits being observed and maintained during all periods of operation. The Alstom team at site has actively supported the maintenance of the vegetation and wildlife protection features incorporated in the plant.
