The contracts were signed with the Hamitabat Electricity Generation and Trade Corporation (HEAS).

The first contract includes two GT13DM gas turbine upgrades, compressor blading, one new and one reconditioned rotor, and the replacement of combustor components. A GT13DM (see Editor's Note) upgrade comprises new turbine blading as well as new vane carriers. Benefits include increased efficiency and power output, and prolonged inspection intervals leading to reduced life-cycle costs.

The other contract includes the conversion of four gas turbines from gas-only to dual fuel operation. Fuel flexibility is particularly important for the customer during the winter seasons. Part of this scope includes the turnkey construction of an oil tank farm with all related auxiliaries. Gas turbine instrumentation and control systems will also be upgraded using Alstom's modular service solution Turboline 3000®.

The Trakya power plant consists of eight gas turbines and four steam turbines and is located approximately 100 km from Istanbul. Four gas turbines have already been upgraded from GT13D2 to GT13DM as part of an earlier modernization project that fully met customer expectations.

The project will be completed by summer 2010.

Michael Rechsteiner, Senior Vice President, Power Service, said: "We are very pleased that the first modernisation project was completed to the full satisfaction of HEAS, and we're proud to have been entrusted with responsibility for the next phase. This contract shows once again that Alstom has the products, technological expertise and project execution skills to fully support our customers' competitiveness."
