Coradia LIREX - a product developed by Alstom in
Germany and further developed for a stable product for a
customer in Sweden - has now been established as an
international Alstom Regional train platform that will be
called "CORADIATM Continental". Since the launch of the first
regional trains in 2002, Alstom has sold almost 200 trainsets
in Germany and Sweden.

In July 2007, DB Regio AG ordered a further 39 Coradia Lirex
trainsets. Some of them will operate on the Munich-Passau line
and will enter into service at the end of 2009. Others are
destined for the region of Wurzburg (Bavaria) and will be put
into service from the end of 2009 until the end of 2010.

These regional trains, which can operate at speeds of up to 160
kph, are characterised by their high degree of modularity. The
length of the coaches, number of doors and the interior design
can be adapted to the needs of operators and passengers. The
arrangement of the multi-activity areas can be varied to suit
the season, for example giving passengers more space in summer
to stow their bicycles. A lowered floor and gangways between
the coaches facilitate access onto and movement on board the
train, particularly for people with reduced mobility.

95% recyclable, Coradia Continental trains exemplify the
environmental approach applied by Alstom. This achievement
results from taking into account, right from the project design
phase, parameters which make it possible to control the
trains impact on the environment throughout their
lifecycle, from manufacturing to recycling. In addition, the
energy management system with which they are equipped reduces
the consumption of the traction and auxiliary systems.
