The representatives toured the North East Line (NEL), in
commercial service since 2003, and the Marina Line Land, a
circular line currently under construction, as well as their
respective control centre and maintenance depot. Once completed
in 2010, the circular line will cover 36 km in an orbital
layout, linking to all existing lines. The line will serve as
an example for Orbival as it prepares to construct a new 20 km
circular metro line in the most densely populated part of the
Val-de-Marne. This project could eventually expand to the
gradual construction of a 50 to 60 km circular line that would
surround Paris, facilitating inter-suburb transport.

During the representatives' visit, they gathered information on
Singapore's transport strategy, the financing method selected,
nuisances construction work in the city may cause, urban
planning matters, the impact on economic development and the
advantages of the selected technologies.

ALSTOM AND THE SINGAPORE METRO

- The NEL: Alstom provided the signalling (Urbalis), control
systems and 25 trainsets for the first entirely automated metro
line (Axonis driverless system) in Singapore.

- The future Marina Line Land automated metro line: Singapore's
Land Transport Authority (LTA) entrusted the turnkey execution
of the electromechanical part, control systems and trainsets to
Alstom in 2000.
