Four models for Stockholm’s “future
tramway” were presented on 4 September at the
city’s local authority offices, in the presence of
leading persons from the municipal and county councils,
transport experts and the press.

The Stockholm's inhabitants were able to vote by SMS during
one week before the presentation for the project of their
choice. Among the four proposals, they selected the double-deck
tram project baptized “double the pleasure”.

Alstom Transport had managed this design study, arranged in
order to push the idea of reintroduction of a city tram. It
will help the authorities of the commune of Stockholm finalize
their plans to reintroduce a tramway.

The Alstom design department, based in Paris, worked in
collaboration with the Institute of Design at the University of
Umeå, in Sweden, taking into account both the types of
transport solution and the city’s urban renewal plans.
The models for the “friendly tram”,
“transparent tram”, “heritage tram” and
the winning project is on display throughout the autumn in
Stockholm’s tram museum.

The local and regional press widely reported the event,
contributing to making the tramway project a major issue for
Stockholm.
