This acceptance shows the recognition of the contractual
performances of the ATLAS system by our swiss customer, whose
trains are under the supervision of the level 2 ERTMS system.

After the Rome-Naples line, the first very high speed line to
be equipped by ALSTOM with a level 2 ERTMS system, the
Mattstetten-Rothrist line represents the widest operational
deployment on a conventional line, with 468 trains and 55 Km of
line equipped.

The train fleet, made up of 11 different train references, is
now completely under the supervision of the ATLAS 2002 system.
Trains now operate at 200km/h, at 2-minute intervals, bringing
the journey time between Bern and Zurich down from 70 to 55
minutes.

Teams from Bern, Charleroi, Villeurbanne and Bologna were
particularly involved in this complex project.

Alstom has acquired an unchallenged return of experience
through this project with :

- 6 millions of hours of commercial operation under ERTMS level
2 supervision

- 2 millions of km

The
UIC ERTMS conference in Bern,
between 11 and 13 September, will be the
occasion for Alstom to present to the press and to VIP
customers this unique expertise. On 10 and 11 September, they
will be able to board a train equipped with the ATLAS
system.

*ATLAS is a signalling system designed by ALSTOM in
response to the new European Rail Traffic Management System
(ERTMS).ERTMS aims to standardise the 23 different signalling
systems in Europe.

Thanks to ALTAS, trains can receive traffic management
information (authorised speed, signals/points, safety distances
between trains etc.) from the track, enabling it to calculate
its maximum authorised speed continuously. The information is
transmitted by standardised beacons eurobalises
installed along the rails.
