For the first time, the train covered the entire distance
between the cities on a very high-speed line, finished just a
few weeks ago on the English side.

From 14 November, the official date for the transfer of the
London terminal at Waterloo to Saint Pancras station, Eurostar
will initiate services on this new line, with a journey time of
20 minutes less than is currently possible. Thanks to these
changes, the train will operate at 300km/h over the entire
line, thus putting London at 2 hours 15 minutes from Paris, 1
hour 51 minutes from Brussels and 1 hour 20 minutes from Lille.
In 2006, Eurostar transported over 7.85 million passengers.

In July, Alstom Transport had delivered to its customer, Union
Railways North (URN), the final track

and overhead catenary system sections of the Paris-London line,
High Speed 1, linking Ebbsfleet (Kent) with St Pancras station
in central London.

The work involved the installation of 40 kilometres of double
track, half of which is in tunnels, the overhead lines,
management of railway access on behalf of other contractors and
system integration tests. It also included the management of
the overall commissioning of these integrated systems.

The work represents Alstoms first project to design,
build and integrate the infrastructures and independent systems
on a high-speed line.
