On Saturday 30 June, the Moroccan national railway office
put into service the final station on the Casablanca-Rabat
line, equipped with its new signalling system, supplied by
Alstom Transport.
The event marked the culmination of a project that has lasted 8
years, following the signing of a contract in 1999 for the
modernization of the Moroccan railway signalling system over
800 kilometres of lines and 60 stations. Completely renewed,
the signalling will allow for a significant increase in
traffic.
This final section between Casablanca and Rabat is the one that
bears the most traffic, with trains every half hour. 70 Alstom
Transport employees have been working on this project in
Morocco with 150 subcontractors and the support of the teams in
Europe. Most notably, the Transport Information System
technologies applied in the project will allow for the
management of reverse direction traffic.
A new project to upgrade the signalling system equipment
between Jorf Lasfar and Nouasseur, close to Casablanca,
implemented by the Alstom Transport team in Morocco, will see
it being brought into service at the end of 2008.
