Virgin called upon Alstom to help decorate a train carrying
a promotional wrap to promote the show. Called Monkey: Journey to
the West, the show will be the centrepiece of this year's
18-day Manchester International Festival The artwork for the
train wrap was by Jamie Hewlett, who co-created the hit band
Gorillaz with Albarn and has provided the imagery for the new
show. It is from its Wembley Traincare Centre that Alstom
project-managed the “Monkey” promotional wrap work.
The whole operation took around 3 days, with Alstom removing the
existing branding such as the Virgin logo, and 1st class signs
etc., and cleaning the train body sides. After the wrap was
applied over the 9 carriages, Alstom reapplied the branding
and ensured the train was ship-shape for its promotional debut on
Tuesday 29th May. Alstom staff also allowed BBC TV in for a sneak
preview of the fully wrapped carriages which will add to the
excitement of travel to the North West; as the train runs between
London and Manchester up to four times a day.
