The following day, the Golders Green Traincare Centre opened
its doors to family and friends, not only of Alstom`s Northern
Line employees, but also to those of Tube Lines and TfL, to
share with them the history and workings of the depot, as well
as a stock trainset of 1938 on loan from the London Transport
Museum.
Golders Green Traincare is one of two main depots where Alstom
maintains the 106 metro trains that operate on the Northern
Line of Londons underground network. Alstom signed a 20
year fleet maintenance contract until 2017 with an option for
another 10 years.
Alstoms challenge is to provide a minimum of 91 trains
for service every weekday on the Northern Line. This is the
busiest line on the network. The trains on this line carry over
660 thousand people per day.
