Alstom has won a contract to provide equipment for a 220 MW combined cycle cogeneration Plant in Skopje, Macedonia. The contract was awarded to a consortium of Alstom and GAMA Power Systems, Turkey, for an 136 million euros, 48 million euro of which is for Alstom equipment.

Alstom will supply one GT13E2 gas turbine equipment package, one COMAX steam turbine equipment package, two TOPAIR air cooled turbogenerators, condensing and district heat-exchanger package and related site advisory services. The new plant will be the first modern, efficient and low-emission gas-fired combined-cycle power and district heating plant to serve the countrys and the regions developing electricity demand and will feed up to 160 MW thermal energy into the citys district heating system.

Alstom has adapted the equipment design to meet the specific needs of the district heating systems in order to maximise fuel energy use and minimise CO2 emissions. The steam turbine is a specific design based on Alstoms long experience in similar projects. The gas turbine provides unique operational flexibility, which enables the client to optimise heat and electricity output in winter and summer conditions while minimising operation and maintenance costs and maximising plant availability.
