Alstom has signed a 60 million euro contract with Doosan Heavy Industries to provide three 220 MW COMAX steam turbines and TOPAIR air cooled turbogenerators for the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) Jebel Ali M Power project.

This is the largest power generation project commissioned by DEWA and will also include a large-scale desalination plant. Once completed, the plant will supply electricity to Dubai and purify 400 million litres of seawater a day.

The three 220 MW single-casing steam turbines enable the extraction of the large amounts of steam required for the desalination process. After Sohar and Jebel Ali L2 Power Stations, Jebel Ali M is Alstoms third steam turbine generator order for a desalination project in the region in two years and builds on the companys leadership in this market segment.

With the rapid pace of development and construction continuing in Dubai, the area is expected to experience dramatic growth in power consumption at an annual average increase of 10.6 %. With a full range of steam turbine generator sets of leading edge technology, Alstom is providing solutions to help customers such as DEWA to meet this growing demand.
