Alstom will continue to play a leading role in shaping UK energy strategy with the reappointment of one its senior technology executives to the Department of Trade and Industrys Advisory Committee on Carbon Abatement Technologies (ACCAT).

Nick Otter OBE, Director of Technology and External Affairs at Alstom, has chaired ACCAT for the past four years. The Advisory Committee has been instrumental in the formulation of UK energy strategy in the field of clean fossil fuel power generation, which in turn has had an impact on European carbon abatement strategy.

Mr Otter has been active in the field of carbon abatement technologies and is the initiator and co-ordinator of the EU Technology Platform For Zero Emission Fossil Fuel Power Plants (ETP-ZEP), a major pan-European action to promote CO2 capture and storage (CCS) projects.

He is also UK representative on the Carbon Sequestration Leadership Forum (CSLF) Technical Group and has led government missions to US, Canada and Australia on advanced power generation, with special reference to CCS.

In his role at ACCAT, Mr Otter will focus on stragic issues pertaining to the deployment of the UKs Carbon Abatement Strategy, with a strong emphasis on CCS related issues.

Alstom considers the development of CO2-free fossil fuel power production as a key measure in combating climate change and therefore is keen to participate in all actions to advance governmental work on the technology. I am pleased to be able to contribute my knowledge to help the UK set the pace for other countries to follow on carbon abatement, said Mr Otter.
