Alstom has won an order with the Finnish company Teollisuuden Voima Oy
(TVO) to supply eight low-pressure steam turbine inner blocks for units 1
and 2 at Olkiluoto, a nuclear power plant in Finland.

The new steam turbine retrofit will apply the latest technology increasing the efficiency and thereby power output of each unit with more than 25 MW without any increase in thermal load. Additionally, the new steam turbine rotors will ensure prolonged reliability operation with low maintenance requirements.  Alstom is also providing the new Olkiluoto 1 generator.

This contract is a confirmation of Alstoms focus on competitive solutions for modernisations of nuclear power plants says Bengt Assarsson, President of ALSTOM Power Sweden AB.

Alstom is a long-term partner of TVO and has already provided several major modernisation solutions at the plant, including the installation of steam turbine retrofits for both low-pressure and high-pressure turbines, moisture separator reheater (MSR) and generator replacement as well as service of the main equipment.

"Alstom was able to present the best overall solution for us and has also managed recent modernisation projects at the Olkiluoto plant very well", says Jarmo Tanhua, Senior Vice president at TVO.

The new steam turbine retrofit will be installed during the summer outages of 2010 and 2011.

Alstom is the market leader in global retrofits. In the past 5 years, it has been awarded a significant number of major retrofit contracts such as Laguna Verde nuclear power plant in Mexico Diablo Canyon in USA, Oskarshamn in Sweden and Yong Gwang in Korea.
